It is incredible how well we can perform a task and how well we can start thinking about a problem to be able to find multiple solutions. In my opinion, we can become a designer when we already are developers since we have to deal with guidelines that will force our brain to make something look nice.
A lot of people will believe that is impossible to deal with two different fields at the same time but think about it for a second. Then, ask you the following question, why successful people can do multiple things at the same time? Why Elon Musk can build a car and a rocket by using multiple skills? Why Bill Gates was able to build a technological empire & help other countries at the same time? Why Jeff Bezos was able to build one of the first e-commerce sites, and now he is building new technologies?
Now than ever before, you can create and build multiple things at the same time, thank you to the internet. The technology that we have nowadays allows us to build things and to learn 200% faster than before. We don’t have to wait for hours or getting out of our houses since everything is reachable.
For this reason, is important to know that developers can be designers at the same time. We have the eye for both things and don’t get me wrong but I don’t think is easy to do that, but is not impossible.
As a designer, you have to understand your audience, and you have to understand what people are expecting from the business or services. As a developer, you will have to have the mindset of thinking about what can go wrong with the user interface, and user experience to be able to provide multiple solutions, you have to know how to break your code, how to troubleshoot, and how to override, or how to develop, and we have to know how to follow the guidelines from the original design to be able to build something cool, fresh and well-design.
To make sure you understand what is a UX unicorn, I would like to mention that a UX generalist is someone who is good at all aspects of UX design work. They are also good at graphic design and coding which allows them to tackle other project work when they’re not doing UX work.

What you should learn as a UX Unicorn?
The first things that you have to learn are the following: HTML, CSS, Javascript, Design Patterns, Design Rules, Software that you can use to start designing, software that you can use to develop tools. The second general rule is to start building and creating things. The third rule is working in the industry to make sure you can start seeing problems and how people solve those issues.
You don’t have to have a lot of experience, but you will have to show what you can, and what you can’t do. In this role is not about how well you design or code is the way that you communicate with other people since communication in this type of role is very important.
What are those tools that I can use as a Designer?
You can start looking into videos on youtube about adobe suite, Figma, Sketch, Invision. If you don’t have a lot of creativity at the moment, I will recommend you to take the UX program from Google https://grow.google/certificates/. Also, you can listen to and watch some people from Crema https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1T23xzbsuKiU2s8aado4Vg.
What to learn and how to start as a developer?
As a developer, I would like to mention that to learn to code, you will only have to go to this site https://www.freecodecamp.org/, and start learning from there since you will learn new things, and you will learn without paying anything.
However, I would like to say that you will have to jump into programming as faster as you will learn according to the time and practice that you have under your belt since this is not an easy task to do, but is very creative where you can start developing your ideas.
You will think that is impossible to do that since you don’t have any experience, but jr. developers do whatever it takes to learn to code through the internet. The best places to start asking questions is Google, Stackoverflow, Linkedin, Facebook Developer Groups & Dev documentation from every tech company. In this field, you will learn that the majority of people would try to teach you something new.

You can start working right out way since you can ask your friends to see if you can build a website, logo, marketing content, graphic design, and many other things. This is one way that you can start building different things, the way that you can practice your skills, and the way that you can explore what you like and what you love.
